It can be hard to find the right essentials for your kids' wardrobe. From baby clothes to tween clothing, we've made a list of the must-have items which will take them from one season to the next.
For girls
Here are a few key essentials for girls:
Leggings
Leggings are very versatile. Whether they are plain or ones that have crystal accents, they can always be matched up with current season and pre season clothing. They are great for little ones paired with tops, and great for older children under dresses and tunics.
Quality cotton tops
A range of simple cotton tops are perfect for layering with last seasons dress, which is now too short, (but can be worn as a tunic instead). They also look great layered with some of the cute wool knit dresses out this winter.
Lots of skirts
Skirts are a great versatile addition to any wardrobe. Cotton and poplin skirts are perfect for summer and wool skirts are great for winter. Pair these with leggings to add an extra layer of warmth.
A pair of boots
A pair of gorgeous boots is a definite must have for all little girls. Both Bimbo, which is an Italian kids shoe brand and Garvalin, another overseas brand create gorgeous boots for little ones. These are definitely worth investing is as they will go with just about everything.
A couple of versatile cardigans
A few cardigans, a few light and one or two thick cardigans are great to have all year round. A fabulous little cardigan that can be worn to a special occasion is a must as well as a thicker cardigan for colder days and nights during winter. Light cardigans are always great as they can be worn all summer, and can be layered during winter.
For boys
Here are a few key essentials for boys:
Jeans

Nice pants and cargo's
All boys should have a nice pair of pants. Gant has a nice chino pant for boys at the moment. For warmer days, a pair of cargo pants which can be worn with different styles of tops and shirts is a must.
Special occasion wear
Special occasion wear for kids can be a hard choice. But with a classic shirt and a pair of pants you can't go wrong. Elodie and Elvis make some great designer kids clothes, ideal for special occasions.
Tops
Boys will be boys and they will need three times as many tops as girls, so it's a good idea to invest in a range of good quality tops and also some Big W special tops for playtime.
Shoes
Boys love gumboots for winter playtime. A pair of Yunginz brown shoes are great too and just as versatile. During the summer months, velcro sandals from Roc or Garvalin are easy to wear and go with everything.
Jacket
For a jacket, you can't go wrong with either a lightweight knit cardigan or a fleeced jacket for during the cooler months. Country Road makes some great boys knits and jackets.
